Chehalem to play for ninth at Junior Olympics |

SAN JOSE, Calif. —
The Chehalem boys 18-and-under water polo team will improve upon
last year’s 17th-place finish at the Junior Olympics.
Chehalem, made up of players from the Newberg High School boys
water polo team, went 6-2 in the first three days of the competition
to play Newport, Calif., in the ninth-place game Tuesday afternoon;
results were unavailable as of press time.
Chehalem opened the 47-team tournament Saturday morning with a 10-2
victory against Elite before falling that afternoon to the Santa
Barbara Water Polo Club 6-4.
As the second-place team in its pool, Chehalem knocked off South
Coast, which finished second in its pool, with a 10-5 victory
Sunday.
Chehalem then scored a 10-3 victory against SET before it defeated
Clovis 10-4.
Chehalem returned to action with the first game of the day Monday
and fell to the Chino Hills Area Water Polo Club 5-4 before it
defeated Rosebowl 8-5.
The Chehalem boys 14-and-under squad competed in a 32-team tournament. It
suffered a 20-8 loss to Los Alamitos, Calif., in its opener before
it was shutout 11-0 by Commerce. Chehalem scored its first win of
the tournament by defeating Pacific 9-4 and was to take on
Sacramento Tuesday in the 29th-place game; results were unavailable
as of press time. |
