Beach, Alaimo earn academic honors for George Fox |
Jessica Beach of George
Fox was named recently to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic
All-America college division cross country/track third team.
The accolade comes via members of the College Sports Information
Directors of America.
Beach, an academic senior and athletic junior from Sherwood, has
compiled a 4.0 grade-point average while majoring in engineering.
During the 2007 track season, she placed second in the 1,500-meter
run in the Lewis & Clark Invitational, third in the 800 in the
Linfield Invitational, and recorded one first and two thirds as a
member of the George Fox 4 x 100 meter relay team.
After she missed most of the fall cross country season due to
injury, she finished 14th in the Pioneer Open in her first race,
then placed 28th in the Northwest Conference championship race and
earned All-West Region honors with a 30th-place finish in the NCAA
Division III regionals. Beach scored in eight of her 15 career cross
country races at George Fox, and ranks seventh on the GFU all-time
6K list (22:55.27).
Beach and Katie Alaimo, a junior from The Dalles, were both
Academic All-District VIII (West region) honorees this year and thus
were automatically nominated for the Academic All-America team.
Alaimo has compiled a 3.95 grade-point average as a history major
and received All-Northwest Conference honors this spring after
winning the NWC championship in the long jump and placing third in
the high jump. |
