The Chehalem Park and Recreation District has
partnered with some outstanding local sport instructors to provide a
summer of sport camp fun. Registration is underway for summer and
fall activities at the Chehalem Aquatic Center or by visiting the
CPRD web site — www.cprdnewberg.org
Soccer Camp
July 16-19 reunites former George Fox University men’s soccer coach
and Newberg High School girls soccer coach and former national
player Tim Tshondariditis with CPRD for a four-day soccer camp for
players in grades K-8. The camp will be held at the NHS soccer
field. Tshondariditis will emphasize skill development, ball
contact, small-sided games and fun that also empowers.
Youth Tennis Camp
July brings the first session of the CPRD Youth
Tennis Camp to Jaquith Park from July 9-12. As
one of the summer’s most attended camps under the direction of Dave
Brown, who has guided the Newberg High School boys tennis team to
the 2006 and 2007 district championships, the camp will host
beginner and intermediate players when they take the courts from 9
a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by intermediate and advanced players
from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. All players ages 7-17 are encouraged to
enroll.
T-Ball Camp
Ed McCabe will host a week-long T-Ball Camp with two separate
sessions offered, beginning July 9 and July 23, from 10 a.m. to
11:45 a.m. at Jaquith Park.
Lacrosse Summer Camp
The Lacrosse Summer Camp is designed as an introduction to the game
of lacrosse, and to see if there is a possibility of forming a
lacrosse league in Newberg.
The camp, which will run from July 23-26, is for boys and girls in
grades 5-12. The camp will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Newberg High
School soccer field.
Glen Foster, Mark Dominguez and Bill Butterfield will instruct the
camp.
Jr. Tiger Football Camp
The fastest growing sport camp of recent years is the Jr. Tiger
Football Camp held from July 30 through Aug. 2 at Jaquith Sports
complex. Players in grades 3-6 have the opportunity to learn from
local coach Larry Adams in this non-contact camp designed to
increase skills in blocking, passing, receiving and running the
football. Campers will receive a Camp T-Shirt and have the chance to
meet a surprise celebrity guest speaker.
Tiger Football Camp
August turns to the older players with Tiger Football Camp under
the direction of Newberg High School head football coach Eric
Carlson and staff. This former college All-American, who won a
national championship for Pacific Lutheran University in 1980, has
the knowledge to elevate players’ game on both sides of the
football.
The camp, for players in grades 7-12, will be held Aug. 6-9 from 3
to 5:30 p.m. at the NHS football field.
Lady Tiger Basketball Camp
Newberg High School girls basketball coach Tamie Woginrich and her
staff will help players concentrate on shooting, ball handling,
passing, defending and rebounding in the Lady Tiger Basketball Camp.
The camp, for players in grades 3-8, will focus on fundamentals,
full-court games and contests.
The camp will be held from 9 a.m.
to noon Aug. 6-9 at the Chehalem Valley Middle School gymnasium.
Volleyball Camp
The Newberg High School volleyball coaching staff will host its
Volleyball Camp for players grades 5-8 from 9 a.m. to noon followed
by another camp for players in grades 9-12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at
NHS Gymnasium. |
