CPRD offers various summer sports camps

The Chehalem Park and Recreation District has partnered with some outstanding local sport instructors to provide a summer of sport camp fun. Registration is underway for summer and fall activities at the Chehalem Aquatic Center or by visiting the CPRD web site — www.cprdnewberg.org
Soccer Camp
July 16-19 reunites former George Fox University men’s soccer coach and Newberg High School girls soccer coach and former national player Tim Tshondariditis with CPRD for a four-day soccer camp for players in grades K-8. The camp will be held at the NHS soccer field. Tshondariditis will emphasize skill development, ball contact, small-sided games and fun that also empowers.
Youth Tennis Camp

July brings the first session of the CPRD Youth
Tennis Camp to Jaquith Park from July 9-12. As one of the summer’s most attended camps under the direction of Dave Brown, who has guided the Newberg High School boys tennis team to the 2006 and 2007 district championships, the camp will host beginner and intermediate players when they take the courts from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by intermediate and advanced players from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. All players ages 7-17 are encouraged to enroll.
T-Ball Camp
Ed McCabe will host a week-long T-Ball Camp with two separate sessions offered, beginning July 9 and July 23, from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at Jaquith Park.
Lacrosse Summer Camp
The Lacrosse Summer Camp is designed as an introduction to the game of lacrosse, and to see if there is a possibility of forming a lacrosse league in Newberg.
The camp, which will run from July 23-26, is for boys and girls in grades 5-12. The camp will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Newberg High School soccer field.
Glen Foster, Mark Dominguez and Bill Butterfield will instruct the camp.
Jr. Tiger Football Camp
The fastest growing sport camp of recent years is the Jr. Tiger Football Camp held from July 30 through Aug. 2 at Jaquith Sports complex. Players in grades 3-6 have the opportunity to learn from local coach Larry Adams in this non-contact camp designed to increase skills in blocking, passing, receiving and running the football. Campers will receive a Camp T-Shirt and have the chance to meet a surprise celebrity guest speaker.
Tiger Football Camp
August turns to the older players with Tiger Football Camp under the direction of Newberg High School head football coach Eric Carlson and staff. This former college All-American, who won a national championship for Pacific Lutheran University in 1980, has the knowledge to elevate players’ game on both sides of the football.
The camp, for players in grades 7-12, will be held Aug. 6-9 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the NHS football field.
Lady Tiger Basketball Camp
Newberg High School girls basketball coach Tamie Woginrich and her staff will help players concentrate on shooting, ball handling, passing, defending and rebounding in the Lady Tiger Basketball Camp. The camp, for players in grades 3-8, will focus on fundamentals, full-court games and contests.

The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 6-9 at the Chehalem Valley Middle School gymnasium.
Volleyball Camp
The Newberg High School volleyball coaching staff will host its Volleyball Camp for players grades 5-8 from 9 a.m. to noon followed by another camp for players in grades 9-12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at NHS Gymnasium.
