Dillow finishes third for Bruins at national championships |
OSHKOSH, Wisc. — George
Fox University’s Ben Dillow climbed two spots to capture third place
in the decathlon Friday in the NCAA Division III National Track and
Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s J.J.
Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
Dillow scored 6,925 points in the 10-event competition and six
points for George Fox in the team score. He came up just short of
his personal best of 6,992 points, which he collected while
finishing second nationally in 2005. He also earned All-America
status, which goes to athletes finishing eighth or better in the
national championships, for the second time.
The decathlon winner was Francis Nugent of the University of
Redlands with 7,199 points, while first-day leader Kyle Steiner of
the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point slipped to second with
7,111. Dillow’s teammate, Ryan Forbes, who was 10th after the first
day, remained in that spot with 6,450 points.
On the second day, Dillow came in third in the 110-meter hurdles
(15.55 seconds, 785 points), second in the discus throw (134-feet,
4-inches, 684 points), fourth in the pole vault (14-3.25, 716
points), 13th in the javelin throw 141-3, 487 points), and fourth in
the 1,500 (4:33.62, 721 points). Forbes placed ninth in the 110
hurdles (15.94, 740 points), third in the discus (126-0, 632
points), fifth in the pole vault (13-7.25, 659 points), 15th in the
javelin (127-10, 427 points), and 12th in the 1,500 (4:58.16, 570
points).
Two George Fox women were in action Friday. Victoria Black placed
17th in the women’s pole vault, which had been postponed from
Thursday due to heavy wind gusts, by clearing 10-10.75. Rachel
Giffey-Brohaugh finished sixth in the second heat of the 800 with a
time of 2:13.38, but it was not fast enough to qualify for the
finals on Saturday. |
