EUGENE — The Newberg High
School girls track team scored 14 points and placed 16th at the OSAA
Class 6A state track meet Saturday at the University of Oregon’s
Hayward Field.
Senior Kirstin Lee was the top placer for Newberg. She finished
third in the discus (122-feet, 11-inches) and was fifth in the shot
put (38-4.5). Jesuit’s Lauren Wilkins won the discus event (130-10)
and McMinnville’s Alyssa Hasslen won the shot put (45-11).
Newberg senior Hali Bellisario also scored for the Tigers. Her
fifth-place finish in the javelin (125-6) added four points to
Newberg’s total.
Newberg’s Alysha Beck ran the third-fastest time in the
preliminaries of the 300-meter low hurdles (45.72), but was
disqualified in the finals. Beck failed to qualify for the finals of
the 110 hurdles as well.
Amber Rozcicha didn’t qualify for the finals in the 800 with her
preliminary time of 2:22.08. Newberg’s Amanda Miller was unable to
record a mark in the long jump after she fouled.
With only two competitors, the Newberg boys team failed to score
points at the meet. Sophomore Alessandro Pia ran a preliminary time
of 2:01.04 for 12th fastest in the prelims. Newberg junior Clint
Cardwell placed 14th in the 1,500 (4:19.73), a week after he ran a
season-best 4:09.15 at the Pacific Conference district meet in
