Brewing coffee for the sake of Love INC |
During the Old Fashioned
Festival Sip City sold hundreds of blended “mudslides,” a mix of
chocolate, caramel and Irish cream, and although the concoction may
have served as a fix for the habits of many a caffeine fiend the
money collected was for a good cause.
Indeed Yvette Heryford, who owns Sip City, said that her first
appearance during Newberg’s marquee festival wasn’t designed to
improve her bottom line. While the Sip City booth did turn a profit
during the festival, Heryford donated it all to Love INC.
“I really believe in this ministry,” said Heryford. She was
introduced to Love INC years ago and her support hasn’t wavered
since. The business woman in her particularly enjoys that the
ministry provides “an organized way to serve underprivileged
people.”
Love INC is “big into outreach and that’s important to me,” Heryford
said of her decision to support the clearing house for other
ministries. She said she believes strongly that “it is a spirit led
ministry.
“I trust them so much... Every piece of what they do.”
During the festival the booth took in $1,900 selling coffee, mochas
and lattes. After paying for all her expenses Heryford was able to
write a $1,000 check to Love INC, which she dropped off Tuesday.
Heryford kept her costs down by convincing her supplier to donate
beans and equipment to run the booth. In fact, the company helped
her set up Thursday night.
She said she was heartened by the fact that all her employees
donated some of their time to the charity with some donating all of
it. Ace Hardware also helped her by donating $50 toward the cost of
the electrical cord needed to run the booth.
Besides her employees, longtime friends showed up to lend a helping
hand. “Two really good friends of mine that are not coffee people
came in and helped,” she said, adding that Robin Whitehurst and Gina
Braden “put in a bunch of hours.” A local artist, Renee Powell,
created the sign for the booth, and a fourth friend, Jude Herrity,
“did all the signage and menus.” |
