Ministerial association elects new president
Pastor Ron Thomason of GodSong Community Church is the new president of the Newberg Ministerial Association. July’s meeting was the first one with him in charge and he wasted no time pursuing the association’s goal of enlargement.
He shared with the 20 or so ministers present the vision for what could become the Christian Church Association.
The pastors in the association meet monthly to pray together and share the experiences of their ministry with their colleagues. And contrary to stereotypes, when the pastors of Newberg meet the atmosphere isn’t stuffy.
This month’s gathering was hosted by Pastor Dave Benson of Family Life Church, who winked at pop culture by referring to his ministry as the church formerly known as Newberg First Assembly of God.
Held in the coffee shop-themed meeting space of Family Life Church, the gathering could have been mistaken for a bring-your-own-lunch corporate seminar.
“I’ll take the good, the bad and the ugly,” Thomason said to encourage his fellow ministers to provide him with feedback about the proposed Christian Church Association.
The ministerial association allows pastors to get together as well as ministries such as Love INC or Faith In Action. The Christian Church Association would be wider in scope in that it would not only serve pastors but the greater Newberg community.
The vision is for “church and ministry leaders from all streams of the Body of Christ working together through the network of unity to reach the Chehalem Valley with the good news of Jesus Christ,” Thomason said.
