Open Bible Church has a new
pastor. John Lester, 43, has been ministering since 1989, but this
will be his first assignment as a senior pastor.
Lester’s most
recent assignment was a four-year stint at a Foursquare congregation
in Sacramento, Calif., with a congregation of about 60 parishioners.
He has ministered in Hillsboro and Fair Oaks, Calif., as well since
graduating from Eugene Bible College in 1989. There he earned a
bachelor’s degree in pastoral studies with a minor in youth and an
emphasis in Christian education.
“I was looking for a place that would be in a college town that had
an emphasis on Christian education,” he said of his decision to seek
a position in Newberg.
Lori, 37, his wife and his children Ashley, 12, Austin, 11, and
Lanaya, 8, are excited about the move but will “miss their friends”
he said. “The oldest is concerned about the rain” as well.
Lester and his wife of 16 years, plan to enroll their children at
Open Bible Christian school.
He described his goal as pastor of the 25-member congregation as
one of building relationships.
When he is not busy pastoring or raising his children, Lester
enjoys Frisbee golf and the outdoors. “I like the ocean, and rivers
and lakes,” he said. |
