Church of God will bring the stories of the Bible to life |
The River Street Church
of God will soon start offering free Bible story time.
The one hour sessions will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. every
Wednesday starting June 6.
DeAnn Chambers will read. She said that she used to be a storytime
teacher for the public library. She thought about having Bible story
time because she said there were no place for children to learn
about Bible stories outside of Bible school.
She finds that Bible stories are particularly suited for children
because they are “exciting, true and fascinating.”
The first story she plans on reading is that of David and Goliath.
She said she thinks it is a good one because it will teach children
not to be afraid of their own “giants” and to pique their interest
in the program.
She added that story time will not be solely devoted to reading,
but will also include games, music, drama, and free snacks. For the
first week Chambers plan to bring a slingshot to her class so that
kids can try their hand at it and re-enact the battle. She plans
dramatic re-enactments every week as a means of getting older
children involved, she said.
The readings will be open to all and parents are welcome to stay if
they don’t feel comfortable with simply dropping off their kids.
