   ST. PAUL — It might be impossible to repeat the success enjoyed by the St. Paul football team last season.   The Bucks ran through the competition in 2009, going 14-0 and winning their fifth state championship in school history.   St. Paul set new national eight-man football records for points scored in a single season (804), total yards (6,497) and rushing yards (5,301).

Vernon resigns as NHS coach

   Fresh off back-to-back appearances in the Class 6A state tournament, Newberg High School boys basketball coach Mark Vernon is stepping down.   Vernon, who lives in Newberg but works in the Beaverton school district, has commuted to coach the Tigers since 2006, but said a recent job transfer will no longer allow him to hold both positions.
