Feb. 8 guest opinion: Stopping the rush to war against Iran

   A growing group of individuals and organizations designated Feb. 4 as a “National Day of Action,” aimed at preventing a war against Iran. The manifesto was simple: “No war, no sanctions, no intervention, no assassinations.”   Nothing is more urgent than stopping the march to war now under way. Economic warfare has begun already.

Feb. 4 guest opinion: Did Reagan raise taxes? Let GOP candidates answer

  Politicians and their flacks lie every day, but it is unusual for someone prominent to utter a totally indefensible falsehood like the whopper that recently sprang from the mouth of Eric Cantor’s press secretary on national television.    While interviewing the House majority leader, “60 Minutes” correspondent Leslie Stahl suggested that he might consider compromise because even Ronald Reagan had raised taxes several times.

Jan. 25 guest opinion: City not all that thrifty with taxpayers’ money

   I see from the Jan. 21 Newberg Graphic that the city of Newberg is having trouble making ends meet. Maybe now they know how the public feels. Some are out of work; others have had their hours cut back and are deciding which bill to pay.   Maybe we should question how much it costs us to provide benefits for city employees.
