Council will get its first look at Springbrook Village
With hundreds of homes, a luxury hotel and a shopping center with historic flair, the proposed Springbrook Village development may help Newberg become a travel destination rather than a town between Portland and the coast.
The Newberg City Council will review a master plan for the development at a special meeting slated for 7 p.m. Monday at the public safety building.
The plan details work that will be done on 450 acres of property located to the north and east of the A-dec Inc. campus. It calls for 284 acres of residential development, 63 acres of parks and 48 acres of commercial, mixed-use and office space. In addition, 32 acres will house an 85-room luxury hotel, spa and restaurant.
The plan also calls for the realignment of Mountainview Drive into an S-curve between Aspen Way and Springbrook Road, creating a new intersection between Mountainview and Springbrook near Zimri Drive. The first phase of the project — the addition of a roundabout to the intersection of Springbrook Road and Crestview Drive — was completed in early August.
The area around Hess Creek, between Aspen Way and Mountainview Drive, will be developed into 865 lots for single-family housing. Both Hess Creek Canyon and Springbrook Canyon will be preserved as green spaces with adjoining public parks and a network of pedestrian trails will circle the development.
The hotel will be located on 32 acres west of Zimri Drive; 28 acres between Mountainview and Crestview will be developed as an expansion of the A-dec campus.
Finally, the wedge-shaped area between Crestview Drive, Springbrook and Portland roads and the Western-Pacific railroad line will be developed into 220 townhouses and condominiums as well as additional single-family lots. The existing historic schoolhouse and cannery will become the centerpiece of a public square and retail shopping area near the intersection of Springbrook and Crestview.
