Friendsview Retirement
Community in Newberg held a blessing of the site Thursday for
Springbrook Meadows, their newest neighborhood.
Springbrook Meadows is beginning construction on land south of
Providence Newberg Medical Center and near Chehalem Glenn Golf
Course. The property was made available to Friendsview through a
grant from the Werth family. The neighborhood will feature 42 duplex
units for senior retirement living and have its own community
center.
The homes will feature two- and three-bedroom floor plans ranging
in size from 1,321 to 1,552 square feet. Residents of this new
neighborhood will be an extended part of the Friendsview Retirement
Community campus located next to George Fox University on Fulton
Street.
“This new neighborhood will provide another option of independent
retirement living in Newberg,” said Dennis Russell, Friendsview
executive director. “Residents will enjoy all of the amenities and
activities of our main campus and also have access to our continuing
care as a part of their service package.”
Karl Birky, board chairman, shared that “this is a continuation of
the vision that was started in 1958 and honors the committed work of
those that have served before us.”
Many of the depositors from the 19 reserved units were present and
expressed their excitement as they observed the heavy equipment
moving dirt to make way for their new homes. Included in the
ceremony were representatives from The Saunders Company, Yorke and
Curtis, Compas Builders, Ankrom Moisen Architects and Newberg
Finance Director Elizabeth Comfort.
Friendsview Retirement Community opened in 1961 and provides a
variety of living options to seniors. A $22 million campus expansion
and renovation project was completed in 2004 which added new
congregate apartments, an expanded health center, a fitness center
and new independent living duplexes on their 27-acre campus. |
