Firefighters responded to
a fire call in the 24000 block of Northeast Mountain Top Road
Thursday afternoon to find a large swath of brush aflame.
Fire
officials said the owner of a field across from 24881 N.E. Mountain
Top Road lost control of a fire in a brush pile, which grew to a
one-acre burn on steep terrain. Firefighters from Newberg,
Dundee and Washington County Fire District 2 responded to the call.
A total of seven vehicles were present at the scene.
The owner had a burn permit, said Newberg Fire Chief Al Blodgett.
He reported that the owner left the area after starting the burn
pile and returned to find the fire had spread to dry undergrowth.
No citation was issued, although Blodgett reminded the owner to
keep an eye on his fires. This is the second burn pile fire this
year, although at different locations on Mountain Top Road. Newberg
firefighters typically respond to two or three such calls per year,
Blodgett said. |
