Berm decision centers on seismic capabilities

Environment — DEQ analyzing whether earthen wall should be built to withstand a quake stronger than current 8.5-magnitude standard

   The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has nearly completed its review of Riverbend Landfill’s application to build a mechanically stabilized earthen berm along the western perimeter of its existing footprint, but the last outlying issue may be a big one: the proposed wall’s seismic capabilities.
