The flying dead —
The parasitic ‘zombie fly’ developed from a maggot discovered in the corpse of a honeybee found by Oregon State University bee researcher Ramesh Sagili. It was the first documented case in Oregon of Apocephalus borealis larvae affecting honeybees.
A new potential threat to Oregon’s honeybee population has been discovered by researchers, which could be an unwelcome blow to the already beleaguered insect that is an important pollinator for crops in the Chehalem Valley and across the state.
