High waters in the winter are unlikely now that beaver dams on Chehalem Creek have apparently been razed in the past month.
The much-maligned beavers of Chehalem Creek are apparently gone, leaving behind a mystery for homeowner Becky Raz, who has lived on the stream’s bank for 13 years: Why did they go?
The animals colonized the weed-choked gully in which the creek runs upstream from Sheridan Street about four years ago and in the process caused a series of spectacular winter floods as they blocked a county-owned culvert that runs beneath the roadway.
