Happy chickens make good eggs the natural way

Low overhead allows local woman to set prices below that of large stores

Joan Stiehler feeds her Rhode Island Reds (on the right) and Buff Orpingtons. While the Buff Orpingtons are friendlier, both breeds of chickens eat grapes, and other treats, straight out of her hand.
   Joan Stiehler’s 200-square-foot barn is freshly painted in red and white. Seven chickens peck the fenced ground around it and an inch of fresh pine shavings perfume the inside.
