Newberg man arrested on sex abuse charges

Public safety — Richard Arron Woollum faces charges after girl tells police of abuse she suffered 10 years ago

A Newberg man is accused of a pair of Measure 11 crimes for which he was arrested Tuesday on sex abuse charges.
Richard Arron Woollum, 43, of 3305 Aquarius Boulevard, was arrested by  Yamhill County sheriff’s deputies because the alleged offenses occurred while he was a resident of rural Dundee.
Woollum, who lived in the 11,000 block of Red Hills Road in Dundee at the time of the alleged crimes, was charged with first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree sexual penetration with a foreign object. He was also charged with providing liquor to a minor and harassment and booked into the county jail on $300,000 bail.
The sexual abuse is alleged to have taken place over a two-year period a decade ago. The purported victim of crime, a minor relative who was age 6- to 7-years-old at the time, reported the abuse to a Hillsboro police officer about a month ago. The Hillsboro Police Department informed the sheriff’s office of the matter and they launched an investigation.
Woollum was arraigned in Yamhill County Circuit Court on Wednesday on two counts of first-degree sex abuse and one count of sexual penetration with a foreign object.
Det. Todd Whitlow of YCSO said that at this time there is one known victim, but that the case remains under investigation. Anybody with information regarding the case, may call YCSO at 1-503-434-7506.
