Pot is seized in bust at home

Public safety — Investigation ongoing after YCINT serves a warrant on house on Chehalem Street in Newberg

Investigators descended on a Newberg home Tuesday afternoon as part of an ongoing drug investigation.
At approximately 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, the Yamhill County Interagency Narcotics Team (YCINT) executed a search warrant at 410 S. Chehalem St. Investigators said they located 37 growing marijuana plants, a quantity of dried marijuana and evidence of prior marijuana growing activity in the residence.
No one was home at the time of the search, but the investigation is ongoing and investigators anticipate arrests in the case.
“We do have some suspects,” said Capt. Dennis Marks of the McMinnville Police Department. “(But) not anyone I’m willing to name yet.”
Marks declined to give out particulars of the investigation, but said it had been going on for about a month.
“Marijuana growing is a fairly common issue in the state of Oregon,” he said. “It’s a good climate for it, so in the summer we deal with outdoor marijuana grows and in the winter we deal with indoor marijuana grows.”
The suspects in the Chehalem Street investigation are not medical marijuana users, he said.
Oregon State Police, the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office and the Newberg-Dundee Police Department assisted YCINT in serving the search warrant.
YCINT is made of representatives from OSP, YCSO and MPD who work together to investigate drug operations so cases aren’t affected by jurisdictional changes. “They work together as a team,” Marks said. “This improves the coordination between the agencies.”
