Tell Wyden what you think

People often badmouth government, arguing that elected officials are unresponsive to their constituents and beholden only to special interest groups. But when the time comes to step up and address those elected officials about their concerns, the naysayers are nowhere to be found.
That’s unfortunate and it’s a blockade to making lasting, well-thought-out decisions that will benefit us all.
So, when an opportunity to participate in democracy presents itself, it behooves us all to take advantage of it.
Such an opportunity is on tap Friday when U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden holds his annual town hall meeting in Yamhill County, this time in Newberg. Wyden will appear at 5:30 p.m. in the commons at Newberg High School.
/> In the past, Wyden’s town hall meetings have been spirited and we expect nothing less this time. Wyden has proven himself to be very well informed about the issues concerning Oregonians and has developed into a powerful voice in Congress. Still, he is not far removed from his roots in area politics and has an ear for the common man.
We encourage area residents to delay dinner for an hour Friday so as to attend the town hall and make their concerns known. Participate in democracy and we’ll all be the better for it.
