Mary F. Meireis
Mary Fern Meireis, formerly of Newberg, died Nov. 8, 2009, at her Redmond home. She was 85.
She was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Winona, Kan., to Robert and Myrtle (Shapley) Rawson. She attended Friends Bible College in Haviland, Kan.
She married James Meireis on June 12, 1949. She taught elementary school for more than 13 years, working in Tribune, Kan., and Chivington, Colo. before settling in Portland in 1952.
In 1987, the couple spent a year in Honduras with World Gospel Mission. They moved to Powell Butte in 2000 and in 2004 resided briefly at Astor House in Newberg before retiring to a senior community in Redmond.
She was a member of Volunteers on Wheels and Newberg Friends Church, where she was a youth group leader. She volunteered at the Newberg hospital for 20 years. The couple were also instrumental in starting the Lynwood Friends Church while living in the Portland area.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include: daughters, Beverly Rosen of Redmond and Patricia Cooke of Dundee; sons, David of Redmond and Daniel of Salem; sister Irene Smart; brother Robert Rawson, Jr.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, a sister and a niece.
A memorial service was held Nov. 13 at the Assembly of God Church in Redmond. Committal will take place at 9 a.m. Nov. 21 at Friends Cemetery in Newberg.

Lynette A. Albright
Lynette Anne Albright of Newberg died Nov. 4, 2009. She was 70.
She was born Oct. 6, 1939, in Lewiston, Idaho, to Arlie and Marjorie (Worle) Longeteig. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1957.
She was the 1958 Lewiston Roundup rodeo queen.
In 1968, she married John Albright and they made their home in Newberg. She worked as a bookkeeper for various companies, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of the Oregon Pilots Association and enjoyed flying, riding ATVs and motorcycles, traveling in her motorhome, her dogs, gardening and exercising at the gym.
Survivors include: husband John of Newberg; son Mark Albright of Clarkston, Wash.; daughter Marjorie Martin of Newberg; brother Andrew Longeteig of Lewiston and three grandchildren.
A private family memorial will be held.
LaVon Hefferon
LaVon Hefferon of Yamhill County died Nov. 5, 2009. She was 49.
She was born June 15, 1960, in Dallas. She graduated from Dallas High School in 1978 and was a member of Polk County 4-H.
She graduated from Chemeketa Community College in 2008. She enjoyed trips to the beach and rivers with family and friends.
Survivors include: son Alex Hefferon; daughters Jessica and Jennifer Dolphin; brother Keith Niggli; sister Sally Niggli and mother Sharlene Niggli.
A memorial service was held Nov. 12 at the Church On The Hill in McMinnville.

James W. Baker
James William Baker of Newberg died Nov. 7, 2009. He was 59.
He was born Nov. 28, 1949, in Waltham, Mass., to Jimmie and Helen Baker. He attended high school and college in Colorado.
On April 8, 1989, he married Rebecca White in Beaverton. They adopted a son, Justin, in 1995.
He was hired by Boeing in 1973 and worked for Tektronix in Beaverton for 18 years as a software engineer. As a young man, he started a side business with a friend, building catamarans.
He was a member of the Catholic Church, Yamhill County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), American Radio Relay League, Amateur Radio Emergency Services and was an Eagle Scout.
He enjoyed the outdoors, skiing, hunting and boating.
Survivors include: wife Rebecca of Newberg; son Justin of Newberg; brother John of Texas; one grandson, three nephews and two nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today (Saturday) in St. Peter Catholic Church of Newberg with Father Thomas McCarthy officiating.
