Pruning class planned
   DAYTON — The OSU Yamhill County Extension and Yamhill County Master Gardeners will co-sponsor a series of pruning classes starting at 9 a.m. Jan. 9 at 4570 S.W. Lafayette Highway. Cost is $15 for the general public, and $10 for certified Master Gardeners. This class qualifies for recertification credit for Master Gardeners.

Holiday public swim continues
   The Chehalem Aquatic Center’s holiday public swims continues through winter break. All are welcome (children under 8 years require an adult be in the water) through Dec. 31 and Jan. 2-3, with daily sessions from 1 to 3 p.m. and (except Sunday and New Year’s Eve) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Attendees may use mats, noodles, slides and the Tarzan rope swing. Cost for children, students and senior citizens is $2.50 and adults are $3.

City employee recognized
   Russ Reed received the Outstanding Service Award from the city of Newberg for the month of December.

Winter holiday swim lessons on tap
   The Chehalem Aquatic Center is offering winter holiday swim lessons Dec. 28-31. Each class is 45 minutes with a maximum of four children per class. Preschool Levels 1-3 and 3-4 are at 9:15 a.m., Level 1-2 and 5-6 are at 10 a.m. The cost for the skill-intensive program is $35 per child ($42 for out of district). Register early and receive a $4 discount per swimmer. Private lessons are also available at 10:45 a.m. for $16 per lesson.

Dundee Planning Commission seeks new members
   The city of Dundee is looking for applicants to fill three seats on its planning commission. The positions are for four-year terms.
   Appointments will be made by the council at its Jan. 5 meeting.
   Application forms are available on the city’s Web site at www.Dundeecity.org or at city hall, 620 S.W. Fifth St. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Dec. 29.

Winter break camp for kids slated
   The Chehalem Park and Recreation District is sponsoring a Winter Break C.A.R.E Camp, open to pre-kindergarten through elementary-age children, that provides a variety of activities, excursions and games. The camp is from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday both weeks of winter break. Registration is open. For more information, call the CPRD at 503-537-2909.

Master Gardener begins in January
   McMINNVILLE — Registration is open for the 2010 Master Gardener training to begin in January. Cost is $90 for the 11-week class held in the Public Works Auditorium, adjacent to the OSU Extension Service offices at 2050 N.E. Lafayette Ave.
   A $35 textbook, “Sustainable Gardening,” is also recommended. Scholarships are available for those who need financial assistance.

Mass at the monastery
   AMITY — The Brigittine Monks will hold Mass at 6 p.m. (Solemn Fist Vespers), 9 p.m. (Vigils — Office of Readings), and 10:30 p.m. (High Mass in the Gregorian Rite) Christmas Eve and at 7 a.m. (Solemn Lauds), 11:15 a.m. (Solemn Sext), and 6 p.m. (Solemn Second Vespers) Christmas Day.
