Volunteer Corner and Where to Donate

Volunteer Corner is a place - a clearinghouse of sorts - where local organizations can list volunteer opportunities. Volunteers are greatly appreciated for the following groups:


Volunteer Opportunities

  Newberg Charitable Organization Thrift Shop is looking for volunteers. Call Cecilia Parker at 503-538-3867.

  After School Education Program: Volunteers are needed to help out in a group setting to work with youth ages kindergarten through fifth grade. Volunteers are needed for individual tutoring/mentorship with students in grades kindergarten through 12. Contact: Kim Boyd at 503-538-8023, Ext. 4.

  Interfaith Volunteer Caregiver Program. Contact: Jan Irish at 503-537-1549.

  Senior Peer Counseling Program. Volunteers are needed for this Mid-Willamette Valley Senior Service program. Contact: Jeff Lukehart at 1-503-435-3401.

  Providence Newberg Adult Day Services: Volunteers are needed for a variety of activities, including helping out during the lunch time and/or assisting participants with community service projects or with other therapeutic activities. Contact: Tanis Snyder at 503-537-1515.

  Providence Newberg Hospital Auxiliary. Contact: Arlene Clark at 503-537-1740.

  Friends In Service to Humanity (FISH) needs volunteers to deliver food boxes, do desk work and help with recycling glass, cardboard and newspapers. For more information call FISH at 503-538-444 or Judy at 503-550-3820.

  Youth Program Drop-In Group: Volunteers are needed Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 415 E. Sheridan St (old Central School). Tuesday activities include helping youth with homework and/or arts and crafts; Wednesday activities include helping with homework and/or activity planning; and Thursday activity is basketball open gym.   The Dundee Fire Department is requesting volunteer firefighters to work in the city. Several areas have positions available: Firefighting, emergency medical services, administrative assistance, maintenance, fundraising, and public education. Contact Fire Chief John Stock at 503-538-3922 for more information.

  Volunteers are welcome at Chehalem Health and Rehabilitation Center. The local, 87-bed nursing facility seeks people who would like to develop lasting relationships with residents. Volunteers can offer their special talent or just their time to the center. Activities range from gardening and crafts to exercise and music to chatting or playing cards.   Newberg Area Habitat for Humanity uses volunteers for building homes in partnership with low-income families. Every Saturday morning, or anytime during the week, on the construction site(s) or in the office, the organization is looking for volunteers.   Abacus of Yamhill County is looking for community mentors for disabled individuals working in the community. Provide your support and wisdom to those who are getting started again.   PLAN Loving Adoptions Now Inc.’s needs volunteers for general office assistance and special events. Call Kayleen Brown at 1-503-472-8452 for more information.

  CASA: Training for Yamhill County Court Appointed Special Advocates begins March 26. CASA volunteers advocate on behalf of abused, neglected and abandoned children in the court system after children have been removed from their homes. Applications are due March 1.   Yamhill County Fair: Looking for open class superintendents in numerous areas, including: Baked foods, preserved foods, collections and memorabilia, fine arts, photography, open class sheep and woodworking. For more information call the Yamhill County Fairgrounds at 1-503-434-7524.

  Yamhill County Fair and Rodeo: Looking for volunteers in all areas for the July 19-22 fair and rodeo. For more information call 1-503-434-7524.

  The "Homes Offering Shelter to Teens" HOST Program of Yamhill County needs several short stay homes in the Newberg area. There is a small stipend for expenses. Call Holly at 1-503-588-5825 for information and application.

  Providence Newberg Hospital. Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers, hospital foundation, American Cancer Society Rely for Life and other causes within the hospital need volunteers, funds. Call Amy Veatch at 503-537-1555.
