Jaf-Co in on
`Extreme Makeover' project |
CORVALLIS — Viewers of
the ABC network’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” program will have
the opportunity to see local contractors Jaf-Co Concrete in action.
Legend Homes of Portland was tapped by the show’s producers to
oversee construction of a 4,000 square-foot home in Corvallis for
the family of 8-year-old cancer patient Jenessa Byers. Company
executives turned to Jaf-Co, a subcontractor with a long-standing
relationship, to help provide concrete floors for the house.
But for Joe and Betty Fettig, Jaf-Co’s owners, it was all in a
day’s work: “We just put in a white overlay floor — it wasn’t
anything unique,” Betty Fettig said.
What is unusual is the work schedule: the TV show gives
participants only one week to complete the project. Legend Homes
recruited around 2,000 volunteers from the Corvallis area to aid in
the construction, including members of the OSU baseball team.
The finished home, designed by architect Mark Stewart, was based on
the Caring Cabin in Pacific City, a children’s cancer hospice. It
was unveiled July 14.
This project was the first in Oregon for the “Extreme Makeover”
program. The Byers Family episode will be aired sometime during the
2007-08 season. |
