Flex Appeal adds nutrition to exercise

Summer is here, and for many, it’s time to find a diet or exercise plan to look good. Brad White and Darryl Jones understand.
Co-owners of the Flex Appeal fitness club, the two recently celebrated one year in business at their new location, 118 Everest Road, and expanded their offerings with a wide range of vitamins and nutritional supplements.
“We’d dabbled in it before but decided to expand, since there isn’t a GNC or similar vitamin store in the area,” Jones said.
A former competitive bodybuilder, Jones says that these pills and powders can improve the results of one’s exercise routine.
“It plays a big part, by helping restore your body after a workout,” he said. “A lot of the food people eat these days doesn’t have a lot of nutrition, so this helps you recover faster and build muscle.”
White, an anesthesiologist at Providence Newberg Medical Center, agreed.
“Two-thirds of Americans have a weight problem — it’s really the No. 1 health crisis in America,” he said. “This isn’t just something we set up for gym members, but anyone who wants to visit. We have reference books they can use, and people can get advice or return a purchase, unlike ordering online.”
Joined with Flex appeal’s current offerings of yoga and kickboxing classes, tanning, weights and cardio equipment, the duo believes their business now has a little of everything.
“We were just testing the waters at first, but now we’re looking for input from customers on the products they need,” White said. “Our background has given us some idea, but we’re looking to fine-tune it.”
