— Kudos to the Chehalem Park and Recreation District for its recent work at the Chehalem Aquatic Center. Upgrades to the lighting in the pool area and the addition of a new recreation area outside the building are welcome, but our sincere hope is that they are only starting points for renovating the aging facility.

Any general election that includes candidates for president could be considered unique, but Election 2012, at least when it comes to local and regional races, was also unique for another reason: simple civility.

We are less than two weeks away from Thanksgiving and we wanted to take the opportunity to encourage our readers to make this year a memorable one for reasons besides stuffing their faces with turkey and pie, then crashing to the couch in a semicomatose stupor to watch football.

Maybe it takes a contentious presidential election to bring out the vote, but for whatever reason, Yamhill County voters cast ballots in droves this election season.

Although they stopped short of uncorking an Argyle Winery bottle of sparkling wine when the walls came down, people in Dundee government and residents in general seemed to breathe a sigh of relief when the infamous purple house was razed Thursday morning.

There’s something broken in the state education system.
As it stands, schools with large at-risk and non-native speaker populations are evaluated the same as those from schools in affluent neighborhoods with mostly English speakers.

There are many complaints heard about the actions of 1000 Friends in our county, specifically its local branch, Friends of Yamhill County.
