   — Kudos to the Chehalem Park and Recreation District for its recent work at the Chehalem Aquatic Center. Upgrades to the lighting in the pool area and the addition of a new recreation area outside the building are welcome, but our sincere hope is that they are only starting points for renovating the aging facility.

   Although they stopped short of uncorking an Argyle Winery bottle of sparkling wine when the walls came down, people in Dundee government and residents in general seemed to breathe a sigh of relief when the infamous purple house was razed Thursday morning.

   There’s something broken in the state education system.    As it stands, schools with large at-risk and non-native speaker populations are evaluated the same as those from schools in affluent neighborhoods with mostly English speakers.
