On Feb. 7, the Newberg School District’s budget committee was awaiting this month’s state economic forecast with rapt anticipation. One could almost hear a collective sigh of relief when the state revenue projections came in $35 million short instead of the anticipated $50 to $150 million.

St. Paul district sets open enrollment number to zero

With its classrooms already full, the St. Paul School District recently set its open enrollment number, part of a new state law, at zero. House Bill 3681 states that, starting in the 2012-2013 school year, a school district in Oregon doesn’t have the power to approve or reject which students come to its schools from out of the district.

The Newberg School District recently added a 14th school, but Newberg residents won’t be noticing construction, as there was none. The Chehalem Online Learning Alliance is a virtual school aimed at current home-school students and mainstream students considering home-schooling in Marion, Yamhill and Washington counties.
