Two Newberg men arrested after shots are fired Friday on south side of town

Newberg-Dundee police arrested two men Friday afternoon after shots were fired near South River Street.

   Two Newberg men were arrested Friday afternoon after police responded to reports of gunshots in the vicinity of South River and East 14th streets, near several houses and an apartment complex.
    Officers found Erasmo Garza Barrera Jr., 49, and Christopher Lee D'Angelo, 30, in a vacant field between South College and South River streets. The two were arrested and a .22-caliber handgun, found with them, was taken as evidence. Barrera was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, trespassing with a firearm and recklessly endangering; D'Angelo was charged with trespassing with a firearm and recklessly endangering. Both were held at the Yamhill County jail on $20,000 and $10,000 bail, respectively.
   The area in which the men were found is surrounded by several private residences, a large apartment complex, Roger's Landing and he White Birch newsprint plant. No one was injured or reported being close to being hit by rounds. Any witnesses or area residents
