Bonita M. Richardson
   Former Newberg resident Bonita Marie "Bonnie" Richardson died April 28, 2008, at her Portland home. She was 76.
   She was born March 19, 1932, in Portland to Harvey and Valli (Brewer) Barnes. She graduated from Newberg High School in 1949. She attended George Fox University, as well as Reed College and the Portland Museum Art School. She married Donald Ray Richardson on June 5, 1953.
   A writer and artist, her watercolors and acrylics won awards in the Clackamas County and Oregon State fairs, while her stories and poetry were published in various literary journals.
   She worked at the Dutch Cupboard Deli in Milwaukie, various Old Town shops in Portland, Sinclair's Fine Arts, and was a volunteer art teacher at Linwood Elementary and Benson High Schools in Portland.
   She also served on the fund-raising committee for the Tucker Maxon Oral School, and as a Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girls Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother.
   Survivors include: husband Donald of Portland; sons, Christopher of Dubai, U.A.E., Laird of Colton, Steffan of Portland, Forrest of Colton and Sean of Portland; daughter Daphne Anne Rice of Portland; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
   A family memorial, dedicating "Bonnie's Garden," was held May 4 in Colton.
   Memorial contributions may be made to Northwest Medical Teams, Oregon Public Broadcasting or Providence Hospice.
   Marcelle P. Petrich
   Marcelle Patricia Petrich of Scholls died April 30, 2008. She was 83.
   She was born Jan 18, 1925, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Arnold and Mary (Edmonds) Haasch. She graduated in 1943 from San Mateo High School in California.
   She lived in San Mateo and in San Francisco, Calif., where she worked for the Metro Life Insurance Co. Returning to the Northwest, she and her husband of 62 years, Matthew Petrich, owned and operated Petrich's General Store in Scholls for 33 years.
   She was a member of the Catholic church and the Y.L.I. Catholic Woman's' Club. The couple was also members of the Robin Hoods Square Dance Club. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, baking and reading.
   Survivors include: husband Matthew of Scholls; sons, Tom of Newberg, James of Scholls, Dick of Arch Cape and John of Bend; daughters, Mary O'Sullivan of Forest Grove, Kathy Stevens and Theresa Koehnke, both of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
   A memorial Mass was held May 5 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Sherwood.
   Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Church Building Fund, or to a cancer research organization.
   Sharon Gillaspie
   Sharon L. "Shari" Gillaspie of Newberg died May 1, 2008. She was 44.
   She was born April 17, 1964, in Newberg to Paul and Ruth (Knotts) Gillaspie. She attended Northwest College in Kirkland, Wash., and George Fox University.
   She studied and taught music ministry in Lindale, Texas, and in Kona, Hawaii, before returning to Newberg. She served as a worship leader at several Northwest churches, most recently Sherwood Presbyterian Church.
   Survivors include: parents Ruth and Paul of Newberg; sisters, Shelly Nelson of Puyallup, Wash., and Angie of Newberg; numerous nieces and nephews.
   A funeral service was held May 5 at Christian Gospel Assemblies in Newberg with the Rev. Len Tang officiating. Burial took place in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
   Memorial contributions may be made to World Vision ministries in care of Macy and Son Funeral Directors, 135 N. Evans, McMinnville, OR.
