   Feedback needed for school lunches
   A Newberg School District task force is examining wellness practices in schools, including the school lunch program, nutritious food choices, physical activity and nutrition education. The district is undertaking the endeavor to comply with federal legislation and new state legislation that establishes nutrient standards for food sold in schools.
   The district is seeking anonymous responses to an online survey designed to help focus the work of the Wellness Task Force in the coming school year. The survey is online at www.newberg. k12.or.us/surveys.
   Walgreens will offer free health screenings
   Walgreens will offer six free health screenings from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 17. The screenings will include cholesterol levels, blood pressure, bone density, glucose levels, waist circumference and body mass index.
   Relay for Life team captains will meet
   Newberg's Relay for Life has scheduled a team captain meeting for 7 p.m. Monday at the Chehalem Adult Enrichment Center, 101 Foothills Drive.    Dems to meet Thursday
   MCMINNVILLE- The Yamhill County Democrats will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Jake's Deli, 1208 S. Baker St. Joining them will be Greg Macpherson, Democratic candidate for attorney general, as well as member from the John Kroger campaign. County Clerk Jan Coleman will speak about the upcoming primary election process.
   Horsemanship classes on tap
   Students in an upcoming horsemanship class will learn, through lots of individual attention, the basics of horse care and handling, including; grooming, exercising, tacking and riding English or Western in a small stable. Attendees should wear long pants, boots with heels and bring a helmet (a bicycle helmet is OK; gloves are optional.) The class is for students 6 and older. Classes will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning next week and continuing through June 3. Cost ranges from $124 to $154.    YCAR meeting slated
   McMINNVILLE - The Yamhill County Association of Realtors will hold its 14th annual charity auction Oct. 14 at Golden Valley Brew Pub. The silent auction begins at 5 p.m.; the verbal auction is at 6:30 p.m. Benefits will go to Grand Sheramina Community Services, YCAP Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity Shareholders.
   Garden club to meet
   The St. Paul Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Neil Bell, community horticulturist with the OSU Extension Service and coordinator for the OSU Master Gardener program in Marion and Polk counties, will speak on "Drought Tolerant Plants for the Sun." Bell has conducted drought resistance trials on Hebes, Cistus (rock rose), and Ceanothus (California lilac). The meeting will be held in the music room at St. Paul Parochial School, 20327 Christie St. N.E.
   4-H horse leader meeting slated
   McMINNVILLE - The Yamhill County 4-H Horse Leaders will hold their third annual "Huge 4-H Fundraiser Tack Sale" from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 7 at the Yamhill County fairgrounds. The organization is seeking by June 1 donations of horse tack, saddles and other horse-related items to sell. They also have booths for rent for a nominal fee; admission is free to the public.    ID theft seminar slated
   Learn how to protect yourself from identity theft and insurance or financial abuse. The Newberg Public Library will host a free workshop presented by the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday.    Child advocacy meeting planned
   "Conversations About Child Advocacy," a lunchtime informal discussion about ways to support abused and neglected children, will take place from noon to 1 p.m. May 22 at Chapters Bookstore, 701 E First St. The executive director of Yamhill County CASA and a foster care representative from the Department of Human Services will talk about advocating for Yamhill County children.
